Summary
The Bob Kapeller Memorial Tournament was held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Big League Dreams Sports Park in Perris, CA. This event, hosted by Menifee Valley Upper Division Senior Softball, honored the disabled veterans and members of our armed forces (both past and present) for their service, dedication, and sacrifices for our country.
This year, all profits will go to the “4 Paws 4 Patriots” charity which provides service dogs training and equipment for disabled American veterans.
Over 300 players, family, and friends attended this year’s festivities. An opening ceremony, 30 softball games, a Home Run Derby, and a raffle were all part of the day’s activities.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony began at 8:15 am with the presentation of the colors. The presentation was led by retired Air Force Technical Sergeant Roy Lantz, a volunteer member of the Riverside National Cemetery Memorial Honor Detail.
Tim LeBlanc, the CEO of “4 Paws 4 Patriots”, was introduced. Tim started training dogs as a kid and after many years of refinement and 1000’s of success stores, the system has become one of the most successful training systems ever developed. And, they do it all pro bono.
Sgt. Mike Feeney, who served in the Army from March 15, 1971 through March 15, 1973 as a Long Range Recon Patrol in the 101st Airborne Division, threw out the first ball.
Tournament Games
Twenty teams competed in the five-division round-robin tournament format.

Home Run Derby
Rich Cruz won the Home Run Derby in the 55-59 division; Andy Bullington in the 60-64 division; and Alan Kaiser in the 65+ division.
21 players participated in this event.
The Raffle
Over 50 prizes were raffled off throughout the afternoon; including sports equipment (including softball bats), rounds of golf, and gift baskets.
100% of the net profit from the tournament goes to “4 Paws 4 Patriots” — $4,500
